DEBUSSY / TÔN-THÂT TIÊT
Melodies, Chamber and piano music
(2018, Klarthe Records)
2018 was Debussy's year! For their second opus, soprano Maya Villanueva, pianist Romain David and his partners from the Syntonia Quintet paid tribute to him with this double CD, anthology of melodies, music for piano and sonatas. Among other things, Patrick recorded the famous sonata for cello and piano, with his lifelong partner, Romain David.
This opus also introduces us to three new transcriptions, notably that of the Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faune for piano quintet. As an epilogue, the world premiere recording of Regards dans la brume (Three looks on the Prelude in the afternoon of a faune) by Tôn-Thât Tiêt, paying homage to Debussy’s masterpiece.
"As in a concert composed for a music salon rather than for a recital, melodies alternate with chamber music by Debussy, taking us on a journey of poetry, modernity and diversity." – Resmusica
"Sumptuous recital designed for the salon rather than the concert hall: the intimacy that convokes, the special listening required by this collection of musical pearls gathered here, alternating melodies and instrumental scores, show the enlargement of Syntonia's repertoire, but also ... its maturity. With eloquence and complicity, the instrumentalists and singer celebrate the genius of Debussy as a poet." – Classiquenews
